Curatorial Work

2024 marked a major year for my curatorial experiences. I held a director and lead curator role for Open Gallery and had the opportunity to bring four shows to life. In Memory, Princess, Craft Night, and Raices Entretejidas. I also held an assistant curator role for The Halston Narrative: A Fashion Exhibition at John C. Hutcheson Gallery.

Craft Night: The Show

Open Gallery, Nashville, TN—December 7-January 18

Featuring art by Nylah Bannister, Lilli Grace Barden, Molly Carlson, Liv Cullison, Daniela Diaz Tortolero, Margo Dobbs, Audrey Gaither, Hope Kise, Lily Ophelia, Amber Sawyer, Cara Tomiko, and Toria Smith. With contributions from Callie Daniel, Danya Parvin, and Renae Redling.

Craft Night began as a simple recurring gathering where friends got together, hung out, and made things. Craft night is a space for pumpkin carving, rampant creativity, and complex artistry. Craft Night: The Show is inspired by the free exploration of creativity a relaxed environment provides. It takes its place in the intersection of fine art and craft; where the boundaries blur between traditional gallery art and the crafty, hands-on projects we create among friends. This show delves into the discourse of craft and fine art, witnessing two worlds collide.

Craft Night: The Show explores non-traditional art forms alongside traditional disciplines–through technique, medium, and concept. It displays how the artists’ interpretations interact in the realm of expression. The exhibition features the work of fifteen Nashville based artists and creatives.

In addition to showcasing individual works of art, we transformed the gallery itself, exchanging the white gallery wall for a cozy room filled with color and life utilizing found objects. An assortment of trinkets and furniture create an immersive and welcoming environment. We explore the viewers' perception of what art can be.

In Memory

Open Gallery, Nashville, TN—November 2-30

In Memory, an exhibition by Danya Parvin explores a common theme of insects and the natural world in the form of woodcut and monotype prints. In her words “The print has natural beauty, not because of anything I achieved, but because the wood is forgiving. Mercifully, its unique texture covers my mistakes. The lines mingle with mine until they align—until they are born anew through the passing of time and movement of life. It tells a story through the changes. Everything changes. The moments that slip by without recognition are remembered through intentional practice.”

The Halston Narrative

John C. Hutcheson Gallery, Nashville, TN—October-January

The Halston Narrative: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow celebrates the legacy of Roy Halston Frowick, a visionary designer whose influence on American fashion remains unparalleled. Known simply as Halston, he redefined luxury with his minimalist designs and innovative use of materials like Ultrasuede, elevating the everyday to the iconic. Halston’s aesthetic was rooted in simplicity, elegance, and an unyielding devotion to beauty. His work graced the bodies of the world’s most glamorous figures, from Jacqueline Kennedy to Liza Minnelli, and his designs continue to inspire.

In addition to exploring Halston’s historical contributions, this exhibition showcases the continued evolution of his legacy. Through collaborations with modern designers and With Love, Halston, a foundation established by his niece Lesley Frowick, Halston’s comittment to nurturing young talent lives on. This exhibition invites you to step into the timeless world of Halston—where yesterday’s brilliance meets todays innovation and tomorrows promise.
